We recommend using only true deep cycle batteries with 12v systems, like golf cart batteries. Batteries rated for "marine or rv" are usually hybrids and can crank an engine but not take nearly as many cycles of discharge / re-charge.

(You cannot use regular auto batteries as they aren't designed for any deep discharge and charging.)
