Anything connected to the positive battery post should have a fuse or breaker to protect the wiring, and the size of the fuse or breaker depends upon the size of wire used in your system. Place no larger than a 30 amp fuse or circuit breaker for 10-AWG wire.
It's also helpful to isolate the charge controller by having a breaker between the controller and batteries, and one between the controller and solar array as a means to shut everything off such as when doing battery maintenance or working in the vicinity
12v Inline fuses and bre11akers can be used on 12v systems and are very inexpensive and easy to find locally at auto parts or car stereo stores
