Your 400 Watt RV Solar system is only as good as your charge controller and will work reliably and be dependable for many years using a Morningstar Charge Controller. These are widely considered the very finest solar charge controllers in the world.
Do you wonder why some "solar kits" advertised cost so much less?
Because they come with the cheapest controllers available from China, typically with very short warranties due to high failure rates.
Morningstar controllers have a 5 year warranty with a 15+ year expected life.
Other competitors warranties:
go power 1yr
eco worthy 1yr
windy nation 1yr
zantrex/schneider 2 yrs
grape solar (home depot) 1 yr
There are actually many Morningstar controllers still functioning perfectly in the field after 20 years of continuous use. At BHA Solar we've carried Morningstar charge controllers exclusively for 12 years and never had a failure reported.
For small systems 12v Inline fuses and breakers are very inexpensive and easy to find locally at auto parts or car stereo stores
A 25a fuse would be used between the 25a charge controller and pos battery post with this kit
